Serra Subaru of Traverse City believes that all students deserve an equal and fair opportunity at a quality education. That’s why we are continuing our partnership with Traverse Heights Elementary to make a difference in the lives of students in this year. Millions of students in high needs schools across the country lack the supplies and learning materials they need to be successful in the classroom. In fact, 92% of classrooms have students whose families cannot afford to purchase any school supplies for their children, often requiring teachers to purchase resources using their own money. During the month of August, we will be celebrating Subaru Loves Learning by adopting classrooms at Traverse Heights Elementary and providing its teachers with flexible funding to purchase the school supplies and resources needed to help their students thrive in the classroom. Along with the funding we have also provided the school with classroom supplies to help just start the school year. It is a pleasure working with the staff and students at Traverse Heights and always love to help our neighbors any way we can.

Special thanks to Heather Bush for helping to coordinate this wonderful initiative for her patients. The kindness and generosity that we see from acts like this, really make a world of difference.

Serra Subaru of Traverse City in partnership with Subaru of America as part of Subaru Loves to Care Is proud to present the Cowell Family Cancer Center with 100 Blankets and arts and craft kits to help spread warmth and joy to the courageous patients they treat, along with that Serra Subaru of Traverse City is also donating $2,500 to help offset treatment expenses patients may incur. June 1st marks the beginning of Subaru Loves to Care month. At Subaru, we believe we all should have a chance to lead a healthy life. Approximately every three minutes, a person in the U.S. is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. The recovery can be long and often leaves them feeling weak, cold, and isolated. Since the beginning of our partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) in 2016, Subaru and its Retailers have helped to provide warmth, love, and relief to those facing cancer. We are proud to have supported nearly 300,000 cancer patients nationwide by the end of this year and to be the largest automotive donor to LLS.

Serra Subaru of Traverse City presented Project Feed the Kids with a check for $50,000. Project Feed the Kids was the recipient of the Subaru Share the Love event for 2023, Subaru customers who bought vehicles and serviced at Serra Subaru during the “Share the Love” campaign chose Project Feed the Kids as the local recipient. The community focused initiative of the Share the Love initiative and Serra Subaru’s philanthropic platform, has allowed Project Feed the Kids among other local charities to continue doing great work here in our community. Project Feed the Kids has been helping fight food insecurity here in Northern Michigan since 2020. This is the largest donation Project Feed the Kids have received and will help them continue to support our friends and neighbors. We appreciate all the hard work and selfless dedication Tiffany put's in and our community is a better place for it.

Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan has provided support services, such as child welfare programs, counseling and trauma assessments, runaway and homeless youth assistance, and on-going training opportunities that create safer and healthier communities throughout the region. In partnership with Subaru of America Serra Subaru of traverse City helped supply the center with shoes and socks to help keep the children warm and dry. The staff at Child & family Services prepares supply bags for children and families coming into the center and as simple as it sounds a good clean pair of shoes and socks helps welcome them. Serra Subaru is honored to partner with such a wonderful organization that truly makes an impact right in our community.

Serra Subaru of Traverse City was proud to partner with the Great Lakes Humane Society for the month of October as part of Subaru Loves Pets. During the month Serra Subaru of Traverse City in partnership with Subaru of America donated $100 for every adoption during that month. Along with the onsite pet adoption here at the dealership, Serra Subaru of Traverse City and the team held a pet supply drive all month long with the proceeds going directly to the Great Lakes Humane Society. We believe that all pets deserve a loving home and we hope that through Subaru Loves Pets and our partnership we can help such a great organization. We look forward to our continued relationship with Linda and her awesome team at the Great Lakes Humane Society.

When we delivered the supplies for Subaru Loves Learning® to Traverse Heights Elementary School and met with Principal, he explained that they have 12 classrooms and was very grateful that Subaru allowed the monetary donation to be divided equally between the 12 teachers (Subaru Loves Learning is set up for 10 Teachers to split the $5000). He also stated that they have 3 Special Needs Classrooms that would love to participate in the donation program. After the presentation of the supplies, we immediately returned to the Dealership and met with our Dealer Principal and CFO to explain the situation. Without hesitation, we were given a company credit card and instructed to purchase additional supplies for the 3 Special Needs Classrooms. We returned unannounced to deliver the supplies. The entire staff were brought to tears with the additional unexpected donation.

Serra Subaru of Traverse City, Subaru of America, and Adopt a Classroom have all partnered together to deliver 10 classroom supplies kits to Traverse Heights Elementary alongside a donation of $5,000 for the teachers to purchase needed supplies for their classrooms to ensure that the school is taken care of for the 2023-2024 school year as part of the Subaru Loves Learning® initative. Subaru believes that all students deserve an equal and fair opportunity for an outstanding education and working with Adopt a Classroom since 2015 has helped provide resources for success in the classroom. 92% of classrooms have students whose families cannot afford to purchase school supplies for their children and after the staff at Serra Subaru of Traverse City spoke with Principal Mr. Kay, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the program and how the donations in the past have been spent in a multitude of ways to enhance the learning experience and make the space more comfortable for the students to thrive in. Mr. Kay also explained that all of his teaching staff is given a very small budget for classroom supplies at the beginning of the school year and almost always ends up spending a significant amount of their own money to purchase needed supplies. The school supplies kits provided by Serra Subaru of Traverse City included many of those essentials. Traverse Heights Elementary and the staff were so grateful that they invited the staff of Serra Subaru to come back and volunteer with the students in future events to support the academic system.

NMCAA was a Hometown Charity by Serra Subaru of Traverse City for the 15th annual Subaru Share the Love® Event, giving car buyers the opportunity to dedicate a donation to support their local community. The automaker and retailer’s donation will contribute towards the NMCAA’s mission of supporting Early Childhood Development and Meals on Wheels. And today NMCAA accepted $35,925 to be awarded by Subaru of America, Inc. and Serra Subaru of Traverse City. As part of the event, Subaru of America Inc. donated $250 for every new vehicle purchased or leased from Nov.17, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023, and customers at Serra Subaru of Traverse City selected between one of four national charities or the NMCAA to dedicate the donation. In total, the Subaru Share the Love Event reached a grand total of $255 million in donations throughout its 15-year history. The team at Serra Subaru are really the ones that make this all happen. Everyone here takes great pride in being able to help in their community, It's just our culture. For me personally, it is simple, NMCAA along with other organizations we work with keep the funds here in our backyard. Any impact we can have in our own community is the number one thing for me. I believe neighbors need to take care of neighbors and the community will be better as a whole for it. The NMCAA provides a multitude of services that I believe make a huge impact in peoples lives. Meals on Wheels is not just a meal, it's a friend, it's security, and most of all just knowing that someone is there. Early Childhood Development is so important and being a parent myself, I believe that all children and families deserve to be given the tools and the opportunity to succeed. Being involved with Share The Love since it's inception and seeing first hand the impact that Serra Traverse City in partnership with Subaru have been able to make in this community is truly amazing, None of this would happen without the support of our friends and neighbors.

During the month of February, Serra Subaru of Traverse City and retailers across the country are helping to support those in need by providing one of the most requested items needed by those experiencing homelessness: Socks. This small item, most of us take for granted, can truly have an enormous impact by providing comfort and maintaining the health of those experiencing homelessness. Serra Subaru of Traverse City is honored to partner with the Goodwill Inn Emergency Homeless Shelter in Traverse City. During the month of February Serra Traverse City donated 1,000 pairs of socks to help keep our community warm this winter.

Through our partnership with Serra Subaru of Traverse City, the Cherryland Humane Society was able to adopt out 34 dogs and cats into wonderful loving homes during the month of October! We are so incredibly thankful for the support from our community and Serra Subaru of Traverse City. Not only did we find homes for 34 dogs and cats, 11 of these pets were considered long term residents or special need pets. As you can imagine, finding committed homes to take on special need pets takes time. To be able to place 11 special need pets in a single month is worth celebrating! One of our Senior Under Dogs, Twiggy, found his forever home this October. The start to Twiggy’s story is quite heartbreaking. Twiggy was abandoned at the front door of our shelter in the middle of the night. It was cold, Twiggy was in a crate, and there was a written note stating he was found in the woods that evening. Twiggy was rushed to see our veterinarian immediately as he was covered in fleas (one of the worst flea infestations our medical team has ever seen), extremely lethargic & anemic, he could barely stand, and we were unsure if he would make it through the night. We prepared for the worst. After several tough nights and intensive medical care, Twiggy was on the mend. Twiggy began walking on his own and acting more and more like a dog each day. Our team was filled with so much joy we couldn’t help ourselves from tearing up. His fur was growing back, his energy was returning, and his trust in humans was growing daily. Twiggy was ready for adoption! Not even a few weeks later Twiggy’s new Dad walked through our front doors, already in love with the little guy, and that was the start to Twiggy’s happily ever after. Twiggy is now living his best life, even at 10 years old with arthritis, he bounces around his new home like he has lived there forever. What an incredible story to be a part of! We are so thankful to Twiggy’s new family and that our paths crossed to help this boy become healthy and placed into a loving home. With the help of Subaru Loves Pets, we were able to showcase our Under Dogs/Cats and ultimately find homes for 34 deserving pets. Thank you!

For this year’s Subaru Loves Pets event, we would like to feature our senior Jack Russel mix Sonata. Sonata came to us through a large hoarding situation in which over 30 dogs were found in this home living in terrible condition. We took in 23 dogs from this case, and Sonata was the eldest dog in the bunch, aging at about 13 years old. When Sonata first came to us, she was standoff-ish, and not really interested in humans. She had large mammary tumors, and wasn’t spayed. We cared for her for several months, until we decided to place her into foster care to get her out of the shelter environment. In this foster home she really blossomed! Even though she is 13 with arthritis, she was relentless in trying to get her 4-year-old foster brother, a dog named Luke, to play. During the Month of October, we found a permanent adoptive home for Sonata! We are so appreciative of Subaru for partnering with us through the month of October to help dogs, like Sonata, find homes. Sonata was also able to be spayed, and we removed her mammary masses to give her the best quality of life. Her adoptive mom sent us this testimony about her new girl: “Sonata has brought immeasurable joy to our home since her arrival a few months ago. She loves to race around in her new yard, and greets visitors with lots of friendly tail wagging and smiling. She has a great appetite, and loves treats, which she grumbles for in a really cute way. We are so grateful to the Cherryland Humane Society for giving her a chance, and such wonderful care.” Throughout the month of October, we had 31 adoptions! That is one animal for every day in October this year. We are so thankful and appreciative of Subaru, and our local dealer for making this possible for all of the animals at Cherryland Humane Society.

At 82 years old, Gloria lives in the home she and her husband purchased together almost 40 years ago. After her husband passed away last year, her children were concerned. They had moved out of the area; the closest one living five hours away. Where Gloria used to enjoy cooking from scratch for her family, she now finds it difficult navigating her kitchen with a walker. She tires easily and her arthritis adds an extra insult to her efforts. Was it time for her to move into an assisted living facility? The family calculated the expense while Gloria added in a sprinkle of anxiety and a dash of depression. She wasn’t ready to leave her home. She just needed help receiving nutritious, daily meals. Enter the Meals on Wheels program at Benzie Senior Resources. The answer came in a blue and white 2018 Subaru named Subie-Doo. Now, Gloria receives hot meals, Monday through Friday delivered to her door by Subie-Doo and her volunteer drivers. Gloria’s children know these trusted volunteers will be sure to check in on their mom and report any concerns. And every Christmas season, Subie-Doo and her volunteers venture out into the community to share the love and spread the word about Meals on Wheels. How? By collecting enough donated items to fill 200 Christmas Gift Bags delivered to homebound seniors in Benzie County. This year, Subie-Doo outdid herself! She filled up with donated food and supplies so fast at the local Shop-n-Save grocery store that the volunteers had to make several trips to collect all the donated items! At her own Share the Love Event at Serra Subaru in Traverse City, Subie-Doo donned balloons and stood proudly outside the dealership all day while countless folks stopped by to say hello, check out what this Share the Love stuff was all about and donate more items for the gift bags.

Serra Subaru. Mike McFarlan. October 24, 2019 Dear Mike, Over the last few years, on behalf of Serra Subaru’s ‘LOVES TO CARE’ program and collaboration with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Cowell Family Cancer Center has been the recipient of about 50 beautiful blankets each year provided through the ‘LOVES TO CARE” program. Cowell Family Cancer Center then distributes these blankets to new and returning cancer patients who bravely walk through our doors every day. Through eager expressions of gratitude, or quiet repose, we recognize in our patients the comfort and appreciation of a blanket’s soft touch draped around shoulders, resting across a lap or cleverly folded as a pillow in a waiting room. Families often share in the delight of these gifts, gathered for a picnic or snuggled together at a sports event. These blankets serve as touching reminders to our patients they are remembered and cared for as they navigate through their treatment journey. In addition, the inspirational notes included with the blanket are heartfelt. Our healthcare team here at CFCC graciously gives thanks to Serra Subaru’s and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s generous community giving and support that combines with our purpose of improving lives for the patients we serve every day. Kind Regards, Kathy LaRaia, MS Executive Director, Oncology Services Munson Healthcare [email protected]

Benzie Senior Resources (BSR) is a private, non-profit 401 (c) 3 that provide services, resources and creative, innovative leadership to make Benzie County a livable, age-friendly community that promotes senior dignity and independence. No matter their age or situation, we have professional, reliable services to help keep Benzie seniors living independently – with dignity – in their own homes. The annual Walk-A-Thon, BSR’s major fundraiser, is a morning of friendship, caring and giving to support Benzie seniors. A combination of businesses, teams and individuals work together to help BSR raise funds allowing them to continue providing all services without waiting lists. In order to raise awareness, two of our outstanding volunteers, Lynn and Judy took our awarded Subie-Doo down to the Frankfort Family Fare Store and helped to sell paper shoes for HOURS and promoting our upcoming Walk-a-Thon fundraiser on August 4th! Lynn, Judy & Subie-Doo raised just under $400 that day selling paper shoes. Every dollar raised helps Benzie Senior Resources provide exceptional services, resources and trusted care to support Benzie seniors. The Benzie Community recognizes the Meals on Wheels Subaru for its sole purpose of delivering meals to those seniors in need of a hot and nutritious meal and the response from our community friends is phenomenal. A special thank you to Subaru of America, Meals on Wheels America and Frankfort's Family Fare for allowing Judy, Lynn and Subie-Doo to hang out at their store!

The Grand Traverse Region was hammered with a snowstorm that lasted the entire weekend of April 14, 2018 with record snow amounts. The Benzie Senior Resources Meals on Wheels Program relied on our awarded Subaru Outback named Subie-Doo to get meals delivered to clients that rely on Meals on Wheels for their nutritional needs. Volunteers Jill and Richard made their deliveries without any problems navigating the secondary roads and driveways. Bert was delighted to see the volunteers were able to get his meal delivered to him. The Subaru Outback with its all-wheel drive is a blessing on the backroads of Benzie County.

Each year we ask the community of Benzie County to help us fill Christmas Bags to bring Holiday Cheer. For last several years, the community of Benzie County has participated in our Holiday Christmas Bag Program. Each bag is filled with a variety of items, such as: calendars, lip balm, crossword/word search puzzles, Kleenex, socks, lotion, food treats and toilet paper. This is our way of reminding them that they are not forgotten. For many, family is no longer local and many friends have passed on. Age and lack of financial resources keep them constrained to their homes during the holidays. New this year to help reach our goal of stuffing 200 bags, we partnered with a local grocery store, Shop-n-Save in Benzonia. We encouraged customers to take a list of items and purchase those items to stuff Subbie-Doo (Winning Name of “Name the Subaru Contest.”) The only space available was the driver seat! The whole vehicle was stuff with many of the requested items. We then used the Subbie-Doo to help deliver the Holiday Christmas Bags. In total 200 bags were delivered to homebound seniors in Benzie County. We received many Thank You’s, smiles and an occasional emotional tear for the gifts. “Some of the written comments that we received: “Dear Friends, thank you for the many gifts in the bag. It was fun getting them and so useful. God Bless You!”“Thank you for the great bag of goodies. It was so nice and greatly appreciated.”“Thank you so much for all of the gifts. Your all the greatest.” The picture attached is the Outback loaded up the Christmas Gift Bags to be delivered to clients.
